We wish to thank our wonderful audiences who enjoyed our Edinburgh Performances at the 2008 Festival.

We also extend thanks to our beautiful host venue, St. Andrew's and St. George's Church at 13 George Street where, given the general problems with the Festival this year, the care and kindness we received became essential in helping us create and preserve the graceful spirit of a true evening at Pemberley -- and in the historical splendor of the church's Georgian architecture too. see map

As evening approaches, Patrice Boyd watches for Pemberley's guests to arrive

If you could return to the Georgian era to spend an elegant musical hour as a guest at Mr. Darcy's Pemberley, what would you hear? That's the musical question that international coloratura soprano Patrice Boyd answers beautifully in An Evening at Pemberley: The Music of Jane Austen's Heroines.

American Patrice Boyd returns to Edinburgh with the European debut of her original classical music program. This popular one-hour recital has charmed and enlightened sold-out audiences in New York City, Toronto, and Charleston, and was featured in New York Magazine.

Accompanied by piano and flute, Miss Boyd sympathetically demonstrates the musical requirements that Jane Austen's heroines bravely navigated for love, honor, or social survival. Each musical selection also relates to Jane Austen's characters or their situations -- and to their real life counterparts.

The music features operatic arias from Mozart, Handel, Haydn, Purcell, Bishop and other composers of the era. To complete the historical mood, Miss Boyd will perform in period dress in the handsome Georgian oval of St. Andrew's and St. George's Church, one of Edinburgh's premier classical music venues.

A perfect choice for every Fringe-goer who appreciates classical music and superb singing, An Evening at Pemberley offers an historical peek into the candlelit world of Jane Austen's time. Often sung by young women of marriageable age, each song was selected to correspond to Austen's fictional females and their all too real human circumstances. Austen fans will delight in discovering the music that helped Elizabeth Bennett win Mr. Darcy's heart.

Praised by the New York Times for her "shining soprano tone and effortless upper register," Miss Boyd revisits Edinburgh after receiving raves for her "gorgeous singing" (one4review) in her 2007 Fringe debut as Sarah in ...And Piano Make Three.

An Evening at Pemberley also features New York pianist Joan Krueger, the recipient of Classical Singer Magazine's Coach of the Year Award, and Fiona Paterson, a rising young flutist from Scotland who has recently won several awards. see all artists' biographies

* "Exceeds the sum of its parts...Tutored by coloratura soprano Patrice Boyd, who's clearly as passionate about Austen as she is about her music...I was truly transported in time back to Darcy's estate. Ably accompanied by Joan Krueger's piano.... The still air of St. Andrew's and St. George's resonated to the sound of bird-song as Boyd showed off her impressive tone and range, calling high and low to the no-less-accomplished accompaniment of Fiona Paterson's flute. ...Prepare to be bedazzled and bewitched by an intimate recital from these musical rising stars. I wish there was more like this at the Fringe." Edinburgh, FringeGuru.com review Aug 9, 2008 Read Full Review

* "[Your programme] certainly did not disappoint the many Jane Austen fans in the audience, although I wish to commend each of you for an unusual and musically superb evening of classical music. It was on par with the finest offerings we've enjoyed at EIF (Edinburgh International Festival) and Scottish Opera. Even last night, as our holiday came to an end, we again toasted our luck because we had serendipitously found our way to this year's hidden musical gem. "
