If you could return to the Georgian era to spend an elegant musical hour as a guest at Mr. Darcy's Pemberley, what would you hear? That's the musical question that international coloratura soprano Patrice Boyd answers beautifully in An Evening at Pemberley: The Music of Jane Austen's Heroines. American Patrice Boyd returns to Edinburgh with the European debut of her original classical music program. This popular one-hour recital has charmed and enlightened sold-out audiences in New York City, Toronto, and Charleston, and was featured in New York Magazine. Accompanied by piano and flute, Miss Boyd sympathetically demonstrates the musical requirements that Jane Austen's heroines bravely navigated for love, honor, or social survival. Each musical selection also relates to Jane Austen's characters or their situations -- and to their real life counterparts. The music features operatic arias from Mozart, Handel, Haydn,
Purcell, Bishop and other composers of the era. To complete the
historical mood, Miss Boyd will perform in period dress in the
handsome Georgian oval of St. Andrew's and St. George's
Church, one of Edinburgh's premier classical music
venues. |
